Lazerian is an art studio and workshop founded by Liam Hopkins and located in Denton, Manchester. They specialize in large scale art pieces such as sculptures and art installations as well as commissioned work like furniture and promotional work for brands. A lot of their works resemble 3d papercraft, but on a bigger scale. They said they design their projects to be a representation of the area and the culture of wherever they put their work up. An example of one of their works is a sculpture of a Polar Bear, located in Spinningfield, Manchester. It is made from aluminium and it’s 2.5m tall and 6m long. It was designed to be a memorable vocal point of the area, especially during the Christmas holiday season. Another example of their work is Gerald the paper dog, which is a paper sculpture of a dog. They have made 19 sculptures of the dog with various different designs. I like the various designs and textures they use on the sculptures. I’ve enjoyed looking at the various works they have made due to the various materials they use to make them. I especially like the way they designed the animal sculptures they’ve produced.

Cristian Marianciuc is a paper sculptor from Romania, who specialises in traditional origami cranes for an art project. He said that he has 5000 of them (by the time that blog post was written). He puts miraculous detail in to his creations, despite being the size of the palm of his hand. He started off doing paper folding when he folded the pages in his personal diary in 2014 and began producing his art project in 2015. His original intent for his project was to do a single origami everyday for a 100 days, but then he decided to make one for a year. He eventually created one a day for 1000 days straight. He has continued making origami pieces to this day. His pieces come from various inspirations like Romanian folklore and art, traditional Japanese art and nature, as well as things that happen in his life such as places he has visited. He has also done commissioned work. I find myself inspired by his work, mainly due to his impressive work ethic, being able to make intricate pieces of art everyday. The amount of detail in his work as well as the way he structures his work is incredible.

Nahoko Kojima

Paper Artist | Paper Sculpture | Nahoko Kojima

Nahoko Kojima is a comptemperary paper cut art from Japan, who started paper cutting at the age of 5 and then continued to as a line of work. Her first showcase of work for a exhibition was in 2007 at the Epicurean Lounge in London. She has continued working on her craft and has done a lot more art exhibitions from then on. For her work, she does very intricate drawings and presents them in whatever they need to, whether it be put in glass or put together in a way to make it a massive structure. The drawings that she makes for her work feature complex patterns with varying line weights, with giant curves and wavy lines. She can create abstract structures using her unique use of linework. I really like the linework for her work and the way that she can produce these giant art pieces mixing a mixture of drawing and paper cutting is very interesting. I will have to incorporate some techniques similar to her work in the future if I were to get into paper cutting.
