AAD011 Communication

Communication is transferring messages from one to another, in art this can mean how the meaning of piece is transferred to the viewer or how the artist communicates with the materials in order to make the piece. First impressions of the word ‘communication’ would connote visions of a conversation between people- communication is everywhere at all times. communication can be verbal or non verbal, signage is communication, there are more visual factors such as eye contact and body language too to transfer messages and emotions.

I have chosen to look at this painting of a cell tower in front of a mountain as the reference for ‘communication’. the artist has tried to create poetic metaphors between the paintings and the space around them and it is open to the viewers interpretation what to take from it.

I chose a painting of this cell tower as I believe it closely relates to communication in the modern age, where we would be nowhere without ‘reception’. if we were not ‘receiving’ messages to our phones then communication recently would be rather difficult. If the cell tower goes down for a week it is very difficult to imagine what we would do instead, especially since we have all been stuck at home recently.

I like the way this painting has been placed in front of a mountain, the explanation is not perfectly clear to me but it does connote visions of instances where nature is to be damaged due to the effect of humans ‘needing’ their advanced technology being put in place. the area doesn’t look too advanced yet but with the painting being put in front of it, you can imagine the potential plans for the place.
