gouache and collage on paper

Here I have painted in gouache a pool with three girls in it, along with some neon balloons/beach balls made from card stock and paper. I liked the pattern of the card and the colours together I thought were rather striking with their bright tones.

In this piece I have painted in gouache a neon hotel sign ‘the palms’ in gouache paint, then I took pieces from magazines which I thought fitted in well and made this collage on top of it. I wanted it to look quite quirky and disproportionate as I thought the idea of a lady sunbathing on a crispy dessert was fun and the toddler paddling in the sea.

 

Card stock, acrylic paint and glow stars on paper

In this piece I have tried to recreate a thermal image with different layers of card, the neon colours reflected this well and the shapes of each helped to represent the facial features vaguely- just like a thermal image would.

Photography and digital illustration

In this piece I have taken a picture of a neon light ‘hello’ sign and have then drew around it, making the other pictures on the wall look like neon lights as well. the different stripes of green are to reflect the light fading away through distance.

Ready mix neon paint, string, hot glue, pencil on paper

Here I have layered paints onto this double spread to create a background where I could then draw on top of and found figures within it. I then used string to illustrate these figures and make them stand out.

Pen and ink on paper

For this piece I wanted to make a thermal image with the use of colour, I used warmer colours where I thought would be warmer sections of the body and colder colours where I thought the opposite. I then went over this with pen to give the figure definition.
