These are my completed prints from the printing workshop. I first began with just black and white prints so I could get used to printing using the plate and ink before I confused things more with colour and textures.
The first print here was not a success, I realised after drawing into it that I had put too much ink on the plate and too much of it was being transferred onto the page. this was a learning curve for the rest of my prints and I’m glad that this happened on the first one so I could quickly resolve the issue for next time.
For this next print I used much less ink on the plate and it worked out better. I drew into it to recreate an image from my fine art setup, I then used my finger and cardboard to push the page into the plate and create shadows in certain areas. I was still improving from my print before.
For this next print, I inked up the plate well and then used some card to scrape off areas I wanted light or lines. after this I then put the page over the top of the plate and rolled over it with a dry roller. I liked the way this turned out and that it was a negative of what I was doing before.
For this print I focused on detail and tried to work on shadow and value, I like the sketchy style I created through this print and I think it connotes illustration.
For this print below I used the same technique but used a different reference image to see if it would translate well into the pictures too.
I finally introduced colour into the prints, I had brought a bag of different items to the print workshop such as spider lace, bubble wrap and cardboard as I thought these might’ve been interesting textures to work with.
I inked up the plate with different colours in a random order then I chose some of the different materials I had brought to the workshop and inked them up too and stuck them onto the plate.
I then ran this through and pressed it, this is what it came out like.
With a couple of the ghost prints I made, I then printed over them again with added texture to them and different colours on the plate. this created a dynamic effect making the prints have more depth to them.
I think this has worked out well for both the textured prints, I really liked the effects it allowed me to have.
