When I first thought about ideas for the denim challenge I was overwhelmed with the many different possibilities of what could be done as denim is such a common and versatile material that is very popular and has been around for a long time.
I went straight to Pinterest to find some inspiration, I love making my own clothes already and so wanted to make something I had never done before.
After a bit of research I drew up some possible designs, I didn’t know if I wanted to make a top or a skirt so I drew options for both and then from that decided upon a denim top.
I began cutting fabric from a similar pattern to my design, I used a pair of denim jeans and a lighter denim jacket but I forgot to take a picture of the denim jacket as I got carried away with cutting fabric.
After I cut all the pieces I laid them all out so I would be able to understand in my head where everything goes roughly. I though keeping the tartan that was already in the denim jeans would add a nice feature to the front of the top.
Below is a little work in progress picture, I had not yet put on straps or the back piece of the top but I just put it on my mannequin to see if the fitting was good so far.
Below is some images of my finished top and a video as well of some details in how I made it, I like the way this has turned out and I will certainly wear this myself when I can.
This project has been enjoyable, I really love sewing and making things for myself and this has fuelled my enthusiasm for it.
