Fine Art Work

To begin, I started with charcoal to draw out different parts of my installation, I started with the corner of the setup and then worked downwards to capture the different subjects within. charcoal wouldn’t be my favourite medium and you can definitely see that I started off a bit rusty, but I think as I did more and more of these drawings I began to improve. using the viewfinder helped me to capture the different proportions needed to be used in my sketches. and in the end I think I found great angles to work from.

After the charcoal drawings, I then completed a couple in wet mediums, I used black Indian ink for mine and in this first one I have also used white acrylic paint. the ink allowed me to focus on highlights and shadows and the contrasts between them, this then helped me to use these as references for my paintings.

This one below is where I first used colour to portray my installation. many of the colours in my setup were of similar value so it was hard to display the differences in these but I believe I managed this well.

After this I then began to paint using my reference photos and my other artworks, I chose this portrait scene because I thought it was busy enough to make an interesting point of view. I particularly like the popcorn bag in this as it gave a bit of familiarity to the image.

I tried to represent colour in this painting as well as making the colour of each shadow true to what it was in my reference photos, I believe I have captured this well, particularly in the striped blanket in the background.

Below is my final painting and the one I am most satisfied with, I think I chose a really good reference to use, I liked the way the subjects were coming in and out of the frame and where everything was placed. I used my last painting as reference for colouring as I thought the shadows were similar and I wanted to keep this natural looking effect of the blanket.

Below are my reference photos for my work and a closer look at my setup, I chose to bring in items that reflected me and my personality, I LOVE colour and fun quirky objects so most of these items were stolen from my own bedroom for a couple of weeks. I had to switch about the balloon dog as its form kept changing as it deflated and other ones did pop.
