Final Translink Bus Design

After stressing a little bit about this project I was able to finally create a bus design that I am happy with. I did enjoy this project but I felt under pressure for some reason, perhaps due to the fact we only had a week to complete it and I like to take my time and think methodically, I felt pushed for time for some reason.

I wanted my bus to incorporate the sustainable aspect of the brief, whilst also highlighting the main purpose of the new Translink bus: to connect the two universities.

My bus is green to allude to the sustainable aspect without being too overbearing with the idea. I used the colour Pantone P-145-5 C as I thought it was a nice subtle green shade that wasn’t too bright and an eyesore.

My overall design feature circle or ‘bubbles’ love the sides and back of the bus. There are in the colours Pantone P1-1 C which is a white shade and also Pantone P 143-14 C, a darker green. I messed about with the opacities and size of the circles to give it some depth and to create dimension so not all the circles look the same. I created two circle patterns. One is circles inside circles creating a hypnosis type of design, whilst the other features lines flowing diagonally through the circle. When creating the latter circle, when I put the lines over the whole thing it was hard to see it was still a circle to I filled 3/4 with lines leaving the other part plain and I think it worked out well.

I used Helvetica Bold for the font and used ‘Unilink’ as the overall name of the bus. I used the same white as before for the ‘link’ part and used the darker green for the ‘Uni’ section

Overall I really like the design of my bus and I feel like it has a modern aspect that is professional, whilst is also still fun and playful, perfect for the city of Belfast.
