Final Poster Design

The exhibition I had chosen to design a poster for is Woman at Work, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Margaret Calvert. Calvert is a  graphic designer who designed and developed UK road signs including both the infographic and typeface. Being a successful woman in a predominantly male industry is inspiring and I instantly was captivated by her work and all the work has done for the country.

My poster is inspired by one of the experiments I had done, where I sketched out different letters of Calvert’s fonts. When sketching out the characters, I added lines and circles with a rule and compass to convey the very first designs Clavert would have drawn in the development stages of her typefaces. In illustrator I used her typeface for the letter ‘a’ then I added lines and circles on top. I used white as it would add contrast between the black letter. I then added a grey background as a mediator between the two design elements. I incorporated all necessary information as well as the title of the artist and exhibition.

Overall, I really love the design of the promotional poster. I feel like it captures the incentive and motivation of the exhibition well and displays the work of the designer Margaret Calvert.
