For one of the Instagram posts, we have to select a letter to showcase. I used some inspiration form Pinterest.
I decided to begin my experimentation with the letter K from the typeface ‘Insert’ and “Sweet’ as I like the design and combination of the curved lines as well as the straight lines too. I began to experiment by having four of the letter and inverting them laterally and flipping them vertically to create a mirror type of image. I then began to experiment with colour, adding red to the shape and also the background to help the letter stand out more.
I experiemented with cutting the letter ‘J’ taken from ‘Seashell’ in half to challenge the legibility of the letter if left by itself. I let the character be a black colour on a white background, so even as the legibility is questioned the contrast still allows it to be understandable.
I then added more colour into my experimentation. For this letter ‘M’ taken from the typeface ‘Florence’. I decided to make a grid of four quadrants and used the colour palette from ‘Seashell’ The letter outline is plain white. I don’t really like the outcome of this experiment.
I used the letter ‘Q’ from the typeface ‘Insert’ I experimented with a few designs as I knew I wanted there to be many of the letter inspired by the Gucci logos and clothing designed, but I knew I didn’t want to colour the whole page as well I wanted to have one letter stand out from the others to draw attention back to the actual design of the letters.
Follwoing on from this idea I again used the K from ‘Insert’ and ‘Sweet’. I pasted the design over and over and filled the individual shapes where the letters crossed with the colour palette from ‘Insert’. I used a black background to allow the colours to stand out more.
For this selection of images, I used my typefaces and alphabet to create words and phrases to showcase multiple characters at once.
Using- Insert
Using- Florence
Using- ‘Seashell’
Using- ‘Sweet’
I also decided to create two gifs showcasing my fonts. (Please click the image if doesn’t work automatically)
I also decided to experiment with some different layouts for the alphabet that wasn’t just rows of letters. I used some images from Pinterest as inspiration.
