For this task, we were asked to create a character. For some reason when presented with this task my mind immediately fell to pixie. It didn’t require much planning and I immediately got to work. I began sketching a face and added the body after. After roughly sketching my character I thought that I should design a pair of pixies. Twins. I wanted to create an inseparable set of characters that are also best friends. And so Karma and Jynx emerged.

I used Adobe Illustrator to draw the twins. I am quite familiar with it so it didn’t take a long time to get the rough sketch. I added a new layer and began to draw a more refined version of the girls. I tweaked some things and got rid of others until I was happy with the result of the black and white illustration.

The twins have complimentary personalities so I wanted to portray this with their colourings and clothes. Karma has pink skin with a green outfit whilst Jynx has green skin and pink clothes. The twins have the same hair style as well as colouring as I wanted to subtly show the strong connection they have to each other. Above Jynx’s head floats an angelic halo, whilst pinned to Karma’s is pair of devil horns.

I used a couple of references when I was designing the characters. These include, Monster High characters: Draculaura and Lagoona Blue, the character design of Kim possible and, the character Fred and George Weasley.

 

Background: 

Dwelling deep within Bloombrook Wood, twin pixies Karma and Jynx, often find themselves in unprecedented situations and adventures. The mischievous elf-like spirts spend their days pranking their friends and finding ways to sabotage situations. Their chosen pranks of the day depends solely on their moods, although they always find themselves coming back to their favourites; stealing beloved objects, transfiguring objects their friends or themselves, or the classic pretending to be one another. Besides craving chaos and mischief, the girls like to hold dinner parties with their beloved friends in their burrow located under the enchanted lake in the heart of the forest. These nights are special filled with delicious food, music and normally ending in dancing under the watchful eye of the moon.

Personality:

Despite being mischief makers and tricking their friends, the twins are lovable and warm hearted. They wouldn’t want to see anyone hurt or sad at their own accord rather they prefer the prankee to have a giggle with them. THe girls are smart and independent however, they are inseparable, oftentimes finishing each other’s sentences. The pixies are hyperactive and full of life. Nothing phases these girls, not the dragon that lives in the west of Bloombrooke, not the water demons that dwell in the depths of the enchanted lake and certainly not standing up to someone who wrongs them.

The girls are twins but this doesn’t necessarily mean they are the same. Karma is headstrong and rather impulsive in comparison to her sister who is more calculating and emotionally driven. Jynx is slightly more chilled, quiet and laid back whereas Karma is loud and excitable. Karma’s sense of humour differs to her sister as she has a dark and dry humour that sometimes can be taken the wrong way.
