Lorenzo Quinn is a sculptor originally from Italy. His works are very metaphorical and ask thought provoking questions. One of his most well known works ‘Force of Nature II’ depicts mother nature draped in cloth spinning the world around and around in a sling. THE stance mirrors the stance of a hammer throw. Variations of this piece can be seen in cities around the world. The figurative sculpture is inspired by artists like Michelangelo and Radin. The piece was made after hurricanes and in southern USA and catastrophes in Thailand. The sculpture emits power and rage, almost like mother nature wants us to remember that she is the one in charge and she can evoke destruction and havoc if we don’t treat her with respect. The sculptor prides himself with sculpting hands- notoriously the most difficult forms to create, ‘The hand holds so much power…To love, create, hate and destroy.’ The bronze sculpture mirrors one that would be placed as an offering to the gods centuries ago.
