Logo Research
For this task, I researched the logo of the takeaway pizza restaurant ‘Dominoes’ which is extremely effective and memorable around the world and best known for its red and blue featured domino piece. In the 60s a businessman named Tom Monaghan purchased the DomiNick’s pizza restaurant, a worker gave him the idea of the name ‘Dominoes’ and it sounded very much like “DomiNick.”At the beginning of the opening of Dominoes, there were three stores in total and so they chose to place three dots within the domino logo. This logo has primary colours blue and red which stand out, are eye-catching and bright and well-balanced at the same time. There is symbolism – red stands for love and energy, while blue conveys strength and reliability. It makes the target audience think of pizza as the dominoes look like pizza boxes. There is simple geometry which ensures that the logo is easily memorable and recognizable. The logo has been so effective that it has remained unchanged since 1960;s when it was first created.
My Logo Design
I designed a logo for my shoe boutique ‘Papillon’ using Ibisxpaint on my iPad. I chose the colours red and black to connote passion, elegance and femininity the target audience would be females of ages 16+. Having two colours makes the logo stand out more, appear simple and it features two easily recognisable shoe shapes to suggest what product the brand sells to potential customers which in this case is women’s shoes, without needing too much detail.
