I came across this Swedish artist who works with paper. Sundqvist creates a large range of paper artwork of so many different subjects such as flowers, people, plants and animals. She has done multiple pieces of paper artwork for Louis Vuitton’s exhibitions. Her flat paper cuttings become three dimensional by cutting paper using a scalpel, putting paper objects in different layers and photographing them. I really love her work because there is such a contrast of colour and vibrancy and there is something therapeutic in looking down at the intricate details of objects that we see everyday. I love how her work consists of many different layers and shapes and I admire the outcome of her work considering how difficult and fiddly this process would be as an artist. I have never seen anything like this before and I think it is refreshing to see something so unique and different. I would love to attempt making paper flowers in the future.

Kendall is an artist who works with paper as a construction material. Her artwork is very three dimensional and she creates her artwork using the process of cutting, folding and weaving paper by hand. As an artist, she is inspired by colourful textiles and ceramics. Her tools consist of a ruler, knife, guillotine and scissors. Kendall’s artwork caught my eye because it creates an illusion that the paper is moving in one direction and I love how it plays tricks on my eyes as I glance at the weaved paper. I also love seeing the linear patterns and the large variety of materials and colour that she uses. Her artwork reminds me of my granny’s knitted jumpers and scarves and the patterns within them.

Jody Harvey Brown
This paper artist uses the pages of a book to create book sculptures of characters or objects within the story such as the Harry Potter series as shown above. To make his artwork secure, he sometimes uses wire and a UV coat to protect the paper from sun and moisture exposure. He is inspired by his favourite childhood books and I love how is artwork is effective in making those stories, characters and his imagination come alive. I really love how he takes old books and gives them a second life by making beautiful sculptures. His ‘pop up’ effect is very unique and I like how this is what makes Brown’s artwork individual.
