Innovation means to improve or to replace something, for example, a process, a product, or a service. An innovation is an idea that has been transformed into practical reality. Many artists are innovators. They develop new techniques and new styles and are also able to enhance art by making expressions easier, clearer and more recognisable. I think innovative artists improve the way art is created. It is important that artists keep up with technology in this way. Petra Cortright is an innovative artist who uses digital and analog tools to create her paintings in order to explore issues of online consumption. Some of her paintings are rendered on aluminium, and are made completely on a computer. This kinda of technique allows artists like Cortright to make endless modifications until the digital file is converted into a physical piece. Petra Cortright works with video, painting and digital media. I have included some examples of this artist’s work below.
I really like these artworks because they look so abstract and the vivid colours really attracted my attention. I think it is interesting how the details look like real paint strokes and designs and I would love to watch the process of this technique.
