I dyed these pieces of cotton fabric, which I got from cutting up an old white school shirt. I used coffee granules and hot water in a tray where I could place the pieces of fabric. I was able to make the interesting pattern in the second piece by placing it in the tray for a couple of seconds before the hot water had fully spread over the whole tray. I then made some folds in the third piece of fabric before adding it into the tray of coffee to give this effect.
To this piece I added pieces of masking tape to the fabric before dyeing it with the coffee to give it this outcome which I think is really effective. For this piece the coffee seemed to gather more around the edges but fortunately I really like the look this gave as the fabric almost looks as though it is burnt around the edges.
I then experimented with tea bags to dye fabric and I increased the number of teabags used for each piece to see the colour become darker.
Here I used spinach to dye fabric by boiling the spinach for about an hour until it had dissolved. I then let the fabric soak in the spinach and I am really impressed with how the colour turned out. I am going to use this method in my two-week challenge because I think it looks really interesting.
