Fashion designer
Fashion design is the art and profession of designing clothes, costumes, and other wearable items such as shoes, hats, purses, and bags. Fashion designers design clothing that is functional (wearable) as well as beautiful and eye catching. Designers either design couture or ready-to-wear clothing. They consider their target audience and who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in where it will be worn. Fashion design is the skill and art of applying design, aesthetics, clothing construction and natural beauty to clothing and its accessories. Design is mainly influenced by cultural and social attitudes and has changed a lot over time.
Fashion designers also design a variety of clothing and fashion ranges. Designers often specialise in a certain area of clothing, such as woman’s, men’s and childrenswear etc. Fashion designers create and design our everyday clothing and accessories, that is purchased by consumers. Designers study and identify the latest the newest fashion trends, sketch designs of clothing and other garments, select colours, prints, styles and fabrics that they will use for a collection. After manufacturing they can oversee their final designs. A Designer also contributions to the production and making of their clothing designs as well as creating ideas and designs.
The job role of a fashion designer includes the basic skills of sketching out ideas and designs. You would need to be open minded and creative with an artistic taste, a good eye for colours, textures, and shapes. It essential that you can cut and sew clothing. It is also very good to have and use tailoring skills to perfect the fit when fitting a particular garment for an individual. Designers are required to draw and print patterns onto garments whilst also selecting fabrics for any special additions to the garment/outfit. A big part of this job is attending fashion shows and examining magazines for newest trends.
Fashion design is an extremely rewarding job. It is a very fast going, hands on challenging job. This is what I love about it. When you find out what your most interested in doing it becomes more enjoyable. It would be a wonderful sense of achievement and joy seeing your final product on people and in stores when complete.
To pursue a career in fashion design, I must put in a lot of hard work and determination.
