Vermeer – Research
Vermeer
Vermeer was a Dutch artist, who perfected his pieces during the Dutch golden age, a time similar to the renaissance in Italy. Vermeer produced a total of fewer than 50 paintings, of which 34 have survived although still massing huge popularity with his contemporaries. Although Vermeer has a number of known painting they mostly all share a similar trait. Vermeer painted most of his paintings in 2 small rooms in his house.
Vermeer worked slowly and with great care, and frequently used very expensive pigments. He is particularly renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work.
Vermeer is known today primarily for “The Girl with the Pearl Earring”. “The Girl with the Pearl Earring” uses the artistic technique “negative space” to its full potential. The centuries old painting, by the Dutch artist Vermeer, has been captivating the masses for years and many would say its popularity is thanks to this ingenious feature. In Vermeers painting the girl, in the foreground, is catapulted towards the viewer and luring us into the deep dark abyss.
