Marianne North
Marianne North was born on the 24th of October in 1830, Marianne was an extremly influencual and famous English born Victorian artist. Marianne is most notabley known as a biologist and botanical artist.
Lucky for Marianne her father was a very well connected man and enjoyed having many very affluent and important men thanks to his political career. Mariannes father Frederick was with Sir William Hooker. This friendship her father maintained with him would prove very influential and benificial for Marianne and her artistic journey. Sir William Hooker was the Director of Kew and also known as the man who founded the Herbarium in 1853, a collection of preserved plant specimens that are usally used for scientific or artistic study. Aswell as this Sir William Hooker is also famously credited as the man who built the Palm House in Kew Gardens, London. And thanks of this special friendship her father optained with him she spent time a huge amount of time at Kew Gardens. Due to the countless visits to the Palm House in Kew gardens she inevetally developed a love for the exotic array of plants and flowers that are found in the tropics of the world.
After her sister married in 1864 and her father lost his seat in parliament, her and her father went on even more travelling. They travelled to and round Syria and along the Nile exploring what the middle east had the offer. During the couples travells her father found himself severly ill in the French Alps in 1869.Due to her father health Marianne and her father returned to England, Marianne brought him back to Hastings, where he later died.
She continued to paint as a way to occupy herself and distract her from her new found grief. After the death of her father in 1869 Marianne travelled more and even added a collection of paintings in Sicily to her portfolio. After Sicily in 1871 Marianne decided to travel to Canada, the United States and Jamacia and even spent a year in Brazil where she is most famous for recordings on the undeforested rainforest travelling through the depths of the jungle fully summerging herself in the array of plants and various new exotic wildlife shed never encountered before.
