Graphic Design & Illustration: RE MASTER TASK Final Images

I decided to choose these three as my final images as I feel they had compositions that I would be able to create the most effectively in my own way.

Neil Garrison: Commercial Art

I feel I was able to recreate the composition of Garrison’s piece well, even though I was using different shaped bottles. I included the red and yellow background as I felt it really makes the bottles stand out and keeps some of the pop art style. Also, how I changed the bottles from fizzy drinks to alcohol bottles was another way to modernise and update the image. When creating the background, I didn’t take the width of the bottles into consideration so I would have preferred if more of the background was visible at the sides and I then could have had a tiny bit more space between the bottles.

Karl Schmidt Rottluff: German Expressionism

I created this copy of Karl Schmidt Rotluff’s expressionism piece by cutting out a stencil and then adding it to the end of a tissue box as I felt it was the best way to make sure the optimum amount of light was going to sign through. I feel this was a successful way of recreating the image but I struggled to  be able to take the image straight on and not at an angle. I had to leave out or change some of the lines to make sure it was still connected so that the stencil would be in one piece.

Cloud Gate Chicago

When I first thought about this image, I tried to think of objects that would best represent the shape of the sculpture and a jelly bean was the first thing that came to mind. However, as it is so small and the actual sculpture is so big in comparison, I had to come up with a way of showing the scale. So, I decided that as the jellybean is quite a fun object a cartoonish, colourful background would work well with it. Looking back, I think it would have look better if I had added some colour to the paper underneath the sweet so it was more defined, but I was worried it might be too busy as the drawing behind is quite loose and messy in it’s style.
