Before I started this task, I knew some letters would be more challenging than others. So I decided to explore this further by creating different options for myself to choice from when creating my full alphabet.
B: When exploring this I found myself collecting circular objects or two identical ones. I thought the cups would be effective, but I felt the handle were too small compared to the rest. I settled on using two circular objects then as they best represent the shape and curves of the letter. I explored using a smaller object for the top curve but found I lost the structure of the letter compared to having two equally sized objects.
G: This is probably one of the more difficult letters I came across during this task. I struggled to find objects that would recreate the curve of the ‘G’ while still being secure. While the pens were a good choice, they created a more geometrical shaped letter, whereas I planned on showing the curves. I came across a ‘C’ shaped light and then turned it so the back was facing the camera. This was effective however, it clashed with the white background and it wasn’t as clear as the mug, which is why I decided to put it in my alphabet.
K: Before I began this task, this was a letter I felt would be quite difficult to try and find objects to recreate it with. I decided the best way to do so would be to find a straight object and then another to create the shorter parts. My first attempt with the nail file and scissors was effective, however I don’t think the circles at the end work well with the other straight edges. I came across a similar issue with the ruler and cutters as the curve of the handles clashed with the ruler. So, I came to the conclusion that using three objects which were similarly shaped would result in the best letterform.
X: This was a letter I thought would be to create, however I struggled to find two of the same objects. I decided to do this as I didn’t want the objects to clash and also for the letterform to be recognisable. I explored using two pilers and then using my lanyard, however I felt that option looked quite messy. I decided on using two face masks as they created a letterform which didn’t look like two objects from a distance.
