IxD: AAD012 Final Submission

For my app improvement within Amazon Prime Video, I designed a shuffle function which I then integrated into the existing app. My hope was to prevent the endless scrolling when you’re unsure of what to watch. In part, I re-organised the side column in order an attempt to improve the in-app navigation.

The shuffle function comes in the shape of a dice and a series of choices the user makes. By completing one of three quiz styles, the user is provided with a number of suggestions, where they make the final choice. The aim would be to provide the user with suggestions in line with their own tastes. I introduced preferences to act as a ‘control centre’ for the dice, adding to the personalised element of the dice function.

I feel this aspect would be useful within a streaming service as the huge collection of content makes finding something to watch very time consuming. The dice would take a few minutes to complete and the user would be given a series of suggestions tailored to them.

The function would work across all devices and my overall aim was to try and make the user’s interaction with the app more enjoyable and easier to use. Through my research and development work, I learnt how much background work is needed for this kind of project to make sure that I understood the app’s user base. Also, how consistency is vital when designing a user interface.

The seven week process has been very interesting and enjoyable but also challenging. It took me a while to focus in on my final idea and then learning how to use Adobe Illustrator as I go. Though, this made my final outcome more pleasing as I am happy with how my final psd mock up turned out. If I was to develop it further, I would have liked to look at the animation needs within my improvement, like the dice shuffling/rolling to the tiles in the grids turning. I enjoyed the process of coming up with an idea, getting feedback and then going back and using that information to improve my ideas. Also learning from the people around me as well. I feel the most successful aspect within my project digitally, was how I utilised the existing colour scheme and look of Prime Video to make my areas of my improvement join in unnoticed. Although, some specific details of the consistency in parts like the proportions and sizing is an area I feel I need to improve on. Overall, I am very pleased with my work in the project and how my final outcome looks.
