Product Design: Folding Experimentation

The first part of the workshop was to experiment with different types of folding using paper which then would be used as a building block for the paper light. I found this task interesting as some folds were more complicated than I originally expected. To begin with I started with ideas that I didn’t really plan out and just began with a starting point and then see what would work and what wouldn’t. I decided to use plain white card on a black background to try and keep it simple for my first attempts and it was a way of figuring out what techniques would be too complicated to try out in future experimental pieces.

After this, we were givenĀ  a nine square task using the folding and cutting skills we had experimented with earlier. I decided to use all nine squares to create one image. My original idea was to create a composition that seemed like a ripple of water, however as I worked my way through the squares, the outcome wasn’t as successful as I had hoped. Still, I am pleased with how it ended up.
