Graphic Design & Illustration: RE-MASTER TASK Planning, Research & Development

As part of this workshop, we had to find famous paintings and/or sculptures and then recreate them in our own way. I started by creating a few mind-maps and initial ideas pages of possible artists and sculptors. I began by finding the pieces I will focus on if I choose the artists as my final three and then explained how I planned to make the piece along with some research and sketches. By doing this I was able to work out which photo composition would be the easiest to create and also which ones wouldn’t work.

After completing my initial ideas, I picked the ones I felt I would be able to create the best. I choose Wayne Thiebaud and used common equipment that would be found in my own kitchen similar to his original. Similarly, with Picasso, I found updated and modern versions of the three objects he used to create a more modern composition. One idea I really wanted to create was Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and use face paint to try and distort the face like his etching prints. I feel these were good outcomes but weren’t the most successful, so I decided on a different final three images.
