The area of Sarah Moloney’s work that I have decided to focus on is her work for the Other Voices festival in 2019. Other Voices is a music and arts festival which encompasses a music and word trail, exhibitions, discussions, and a TV music series. It is held annually in the remote village of Dingle, County Kerry. I decided to include Moloney’s work as my family and I would go there every summer so I felt I would be able to understand her graphics well. The inclusion of the silhouette of ‘ The Sleeping Giant’ is key as it could be considered the standout feature of the area making the location instantly recognisable through the graphics. The colour palette of the soft red against the black is reminiscent of a rising sun in the morning along with the lighter ‘reflection’ surrounded by the light blue/lilac sea. This symbolises to me that the festival is full of up and coming Irish artists and musicians or it’s almost like a new dawn of Irish music. I particularly like the choice of font by Moloney as it reminds me of a traditional Irish font which shows how the culture of the area may play a key role in the festival. I really like the simplicity of this composition and think it captures the environment where the festival will be held well. Overall, I feel Moloney’s composition and colour palette combine well together to create a simplistic but informative graphic design. By researching her work, I have found out that in graphic design, it doesn’t always have to be the most complex or complicated design to inform the public about what you’re advertising.
