Still undecided on my name, using Google Fonts I took my top five ideas and tried out different fonts to help me decide. I found this useful, as some names didn’t really suit any fonts or the longer I worked with them, the more I felt it wasn’t going to suit my brand. So after this, I finally decided to use ‘Yello’ as the name of my bank.
I choose ‘Yello’ because yellow is the colour of teamwork which is one of my brand values. I also felt it had a lot of positive imagery I could relate to it with positive being another value. It was while I was in Figma that I decided to see how it would look with the w and I preferred it without it. I felt the tone of voice generated with this name matched my values and mission of my brand more than any of the other names. I also like how it isn’t a name you would think of when it came to banking, which shows that it is a new, different type of bank.
It was a process of trial and error with multiple fonts until I found one I liked and could see through all the different areas of my brand. I used multiple sources including Google fonts. I also explored how it would look if I kept it all lower case, which I ended up choosing.
I sketch up ideas of possible designs for word marks and logo marks. I looked into the idea of pairing my brand with lemon imagery and the phrase ‘when life gives you lemons…’, but once I received some feedback it was pointed out that the word ‘yell’ is in the brand name, which could mean shouting that there’s a new bank. I felt this would have more opportunities on the design side of my brand so I decide to go with it.
With the idea of shouting and conversations, I thought about introducing some punctuation into my design as they would show this visually. I saw that the speech marks and exclamation marks could act as the double ‘l’ in the name so I explored this idea.
While this took a lot of time, I found it very informative as I was able to explore multiple options which I can take from when I move to the more detailed aspects, like advertising and touch points. I am happy with my final word mark and logo mark as I feel they reflect the tone and values I have for my brand.

With Fredoka One chosen as my primary font, I now had to chose my secondary font. So I used the website fontjoy to see what other fonts would match well with it. This font will be for the bodies of text or sub headings through out all formats. It is also an important section to have in my brand guidelines to create consistency throughout my brand if I want it to be memorable.
