After my research, I have taken inspiration from a range of styles and artists, so my next step is to brainstorm ideas for posters. I created a mood board of visual images that link to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and also specifically to the four articles I am focusing on. This will help me come up with possible ideas for my posters which I will then take and create more detailed sketches looking closer at the specifics of the design.
I created very quick and brief sketches for each of the articles I am focusing on. My hope by doing this, will be to try and narrow down which one I want to carry out through as my final outcome. I used my research and mood boards as my main inspiration. This part of my design process is mainly to get the ideas out of my head and down onto paper. I wasn’t precious with the sizing or spacing as I found when I was sketching them out, I lead me to come up with different ideas based off the previous drawing. Even by doing this alone, I found myself reducing down to three articles as I was struggling to come up with designs I liked for it.
Similar to my other projects, I chose the designs I felt would be the strongest and drew them up in more detail so I could look at the sizing and spacing. I find this very useful as I could think a design would work as an initial design, but when I create a more accurate sketch, I find it doesn’t work as well as I would’ve hoped. It also benefits me when I turn to digitalising them as sometimes I can simply place the scan of my sketch into Figma and build on top of it.

Exploring designs on Figma…
I chose my April Greiman inspired design and the house outline as my two favourite possible designs so I decided to move these onto Figma. However, I am not pleased with how the Greiman design turned out, as it was a design I wanted to challenge myself with, using bold colours and shapes, and I don’t feel like I completed it to a high enough standard to be my final poster. In terms of my house design, I am happy with how it turn out as I like the simplicity of it and that there is a visual which links back to the article of choice. I found myself creating multiple options, changing the layout, orientation and colours. I chose the black, white and yellow colour palette as I always found the combination of black and yellow to be a very strong and eye catching pair, so I felt it would be suitable for the poster. My main inspiration was the concept of concrete poetry as once I started researching about it, it was the idea that stuck with me through my sketching process.
Final Outcome…
I chose this design as my final outcome as I felt it was the strongest composition out of my ideas. I felt I should add a bit of text that said where the article was from just so it’s clear to the viewer. While some of the words are broke in the house, I made sure there is a couple of section where the viewer is able to read the different parts of the article easily enough. I feel like the simplicity of the design would attract the viewer, that they would see a strong black background with a simple house, but when looked at closer they can read the article. I got the idea of the house as the article says how marriage is about family and how family is a unit, so I felt a house symbolises this best, one unit under one roof. While I do like the simplicity of my design, I would be concerned if it was too simple, with too much negative space.
