Fine Art Painting, Final Outcomes

These were my ideas for the final paintings that I was going to do, if you can decipher them at all, it was a tall order even for me at times.
I wanted my final colour paintings to look really surreal so I mixed different elements from different photographs together and made some interesting paintings!

The first of the three is made up of more scratchy brushstrokes but after this one I found that I much preferred the watery look, with drips and translucent paint and circular brushstrokes that move throughout the subject in one long spiral or wiggly line. I really like the depth of colour within the teddy bear and the texture of it too, I wish I had worked more on the colour of the mask as I feel it stands out a little too much and is very bold when compared to the rest of the painting. I suppose where things get interesting is in the flowers, instead of having plain dead flowers I decided to put some ceramic masks in the middle so they quite literally are ‘flower heads’.

Again, my second is my favourite. I used lots of water and round brushstrokes that went in infinity patterns, an endless loop that goes around the bear, it’s colour deepened in similar motions in the necessary places. I love the drips in the background and the light green colour with the purple against it. I also really like how the dead roses turned out I think the crunchy texture was conveyed and they look dead or dying, everything looks kind of decayed in this painting and I think that’s why it’s my favourite. The colours are strongest in this one and I’m proud of the brushwork. The melting clock was difficult though and it took lots of time but I am so so pleased with the outcome, I like the contrasting textures of the bear, flowers, click and background they’re all different but all somehow work well together!

My final painting and largest of the three. I wanted the background look like a sort of vortex or maybe void- I wanted it to look cinematic almost and easy to imagine the teddy bear spiralling further down while the masks floated menacingly around it. I did similar brushwork to the previous but I took more time with the background, making it even in colour with a soft gradient from green to black. I’m very happy with how the masks turned out in particular as I was nervous to start them, my only wish is that the bear in the centre had more highlights and stood out more…
