Graphic Design And Illustration

When presented with this task i wanted to experiment with using different techniques such as layering and composition.  I chose to stay with a color palette of black, grey and yellow.

Graphic Design Digital Panels

When creating my graphic language digitally I chose to stick to my original color palette of greys, black and yellow. I felt this color palette worked quite well together.

All of my Graphic Language Digital Panels.

I really enjoyed creating these so I continued to experiment with different approaches such as the illustrative approach in the last 3.

Paper Panels

Below I have created some graphic language panels from paper. This part of the task i found the most difficult as my materials were extremely limited.

I tried to keep a similar color palette to my digital pieces an my drawings. However, I leaned into colours that I associated with the earth such as browns, yellows and greens. I was inspired to do this after creating the small plant growing out of the paper (bottom left). Although this particular panel is more illustrative i feel it works well.

For the majority of my panels I took inspiration from the world around me. This includes: solar panels (bottom right); the sun and the moon (top right) and the mountains and hills around me (right middle). I also worked with some designs I had drawn up previously but tried to convey them in paper form.

I also created a panel using found materials (matches , middle left)  to experiment and see how they work when trying to create a pattern. I feel this could be extremely strong if shown on a larger scale.

Overall, I feel my color palette is strong. I wish I could have incorporated some darker colors into my work as I feel it would have packed an extra punch and made some of my patterns  stand out more. My favorite pieces to create were usually the more illustrative pieces as they had a specific style and I enjoyed creating a collection of illustrative images that were cohesive and recognizable as an object/scene.
