The Treehouse.
When finding materials for this project I was inspired from my surroundings. I live on a farm surrounded by many run down buildings, this was what inspired both my houses below.
Plant Root.
When searching for materials I came across a large plant root (Shown above) this inspired me to create a miniature tree house. I decided I could achieve this through using small sticks and stems I could find around the yard.
Once i found the sticks and stems I wanted to use I cut them in half to create different colors and give the effect of wooden slats or floorboards that would be found in a typical treehouse.

A closer look…
Above I tried breaking small parts of the tree branch to create a small door and window for the treehouse. I felt this really added character and made it look old and dilapidated due to the serrated edges on each of the slats.
The final product.
Above Is the final product. In the end i had to use a stone to prop up the root as it would not stand up alone. However, i’m glad I did as I really like the dynamic between the dark, smooth stone and the twisting tree branch.
The Cottage.
The next house i decided to create is keeping within the theme of dilapidated buildings. I decided to create an old run down cottage- much like one I live near. The cottage is mostly made out of materials i have recycled e.g. old tissue paper from birthday gifts and small bits of backing board I found in the recycling bin. I also sourced garden wire and parts of old fencing I found around my home.

Above you can see that i have glued the sides of the house together and added some mixed herbs to the walls to give them a mossy, overgrown, texture. I have also used part of some old fencing to create the center of the window frame.
The final product.
To create the final product i added garden wire to look like vines along with sticks o show there was once a roof and some hot glue to look like cobwebs. I also added a birds nest made out of animal fur (these can be seen in detail below). For the floor i cut an old sponge in half to give a pop of color in the house and make it look bright inside.
