During the visit to the Ulster Museum, I produced charcoal studies from my observations of the sites interior structures and the museum pieces within the structure.
The above charcoal studies are on A3 and show my observations looking down onto the museum foyer. I was interesting the sharp lines created by the modern renovations in contrast to the curving and finer detailed architecture left from the original building. I enjoyed combing both through the dark shadows charcoal created.
The first A2 charcoal study (shown above) is also from the top floor of the Ulster Museum. I utilised the edge of the charcoal stick to create interesting, overlapping edges and angles created by the modern balcony’s and wires suspending an art piece from the ceiling.
My second A2 charcoal study (shown last) shows a gallery space within the museum. I was really interested in the overlapping of the metal beams which propped up a Celtic Cross (seen in the background of the study) and how the structure contrasts with the much more detailed, historic artefact.
