Throughout this week we looked at lettering, space and place. It was a very enjoyable and engaging week for me to participate with and really began to open up and show how diverse and vast the world of Graphic design is. In the classes this week we learned a lot about how Graphic design is used essentially everywhere around us, and how designers use design and typography to communicate messages, information, aesthetics etc in engaging and informing ways.

We partook in a number of workshops during this week including “26 letters” where we took our first initial and wrote it as many times as we could possibly think of, the results were interesting and beautiful really show casing how there are endless possibilities to what can be created the only limit being the mind. We were also tasked with making a 3D letter based on an interesting and aesthetic letter that could be found around us, be it on food packaging, a magazine or for my case a game logo on a box. This task was very fun and the end result is very interesting to look at. A stencil task was also handed out it was tedious however it was interesting to experiment with different colours, textures and material to create interesting portrayals of the letter C.

We were also tasked to go out on a walk in our local area and find and photograph a number of different forms of graphic design in our environment. This ranged from street signs, architectonic sign to even graffiti. There were so many examples to pick from, which just goes to show how we are literally living in a world full of design that we are subconsciously taking in, and it is not until we begin to actively observe in the world around us do we see the thought, talent and techniques that designers put in to the world around us.
