Week 2
For this part of the week, I was tasked with creating a model of a table using the skills we learned during class. The first step was to find a reference of a table using Google. For this example I found a good table that I can model. Next, I opened Maya and set up a new project folder for the scene.
The first step is to spawn a cube into the scene. Then I copy the cube three time using the shift key and dragging objects at the same time using the move tool. This will allow me to make copies of the object much easier. Then I make sure that the cubes are well aligned. Then I increase the height of all the legs by pressing the E keyboard to get the size mode and dragging the top handle bar. Another cube was then spawned. Before I move on, I know I can use the extrude tool to make the sides of the frame of the table, but the reason I creating the frames from a new object is that it adds more depth to the object, it allows much easier control for manipulating the object and it makes the object look realistic. So for the side frame of the table, I will do a similar techniques as the table legs whit the only exception that when resizing, I use the size left handle to increase it in length.
Next was to make the surface of the table. For that I used a cube and resized it and thin out the cube. Afterwards it was moved onto of the legs and frames. Now that the table was done, I had to make smaller objects to add a bit of life to the table. So, I spawned a cylinder for the base of the cup and a cube for the handle. Before I could use the curve tool on the handle I had to sections to the object by using the edge loop tool to add sections to the objects so that it can bend. Now, I just simply go onto Deform>Nonlinear and Bend this will pop up a menu on the right side which will allow me to modify how curved the object is. Once is done, I just copied the model and moved it close to the base of the mug and just simply merge the two together, and make sure that the model is adjusted correctly. Lastly, I made the cup transparent using a material called Standard Surface. With its settings in the attribute tab, it will allow me to make it transparent by changing the weight of the object to make it look transparent.
Lastly I created a graphics tablet using a resized cube alongside using the, edge loop tool and the extrude tool used on certain places. Also I created a pen using a resized cylinder and stretching a vertex point at the top of the shape.
Now that it was done, I textured everything. From things like the legs and the objects on the table by assigning them materials like blinn and lambert using to hold the right click going to New material.
Now that is done, I make sure I save and export my scene through File and Export and then I paste it into website called p3d which allows me to post my model of the object there. Here is a link to it. https://p3d.in/lpvpI
Overall I liked this exercise as it got me to think a different way of approaching the task. The think that I love about this table is there is some depth to the object as it was constructed like a real table. The think that I didn’t like for this object was that I didn’t put any complex textures on it.
