Before I created my showreel for the final year, I revisited my second-year showreel (link above) to analyze it and see what I could include in this showreel and some things to watch out for.

  • The camera moves too quickly around the bathroom scene, and also the camera shows a black spot as it pans outside the room to look in through the window. At the time I thought it would be a good idea to show the room through the window, but I should have done this as a seperate clip
  • As I want to specalise in making assets, I liked the clips rotating the individual assets as it focused attention on them
  • Keep work best first and spend the majority of the video on them
  • Not everything I have made needs to make it to video, only the best or most interesting pieces should be in
  • Would be good to show scenes in different modes such as wireframe
  • The music could be used again, its not distracting but still adds to the video

Some 3D showreels

Yannick Vincent

  • Included contact information at the beginning of the Showreel
  • Images and titles were very insync with the music, keep it interesting
  • Showed the same model in various different shots and varied the lighting
  • Introduced us to the character before showing it in use, might not suit for me as my work is not character based
  • I found it slightly too long

Jan Jinda

  • Very cool work, still film based but worked on assets or costumes within the film
  • Writing in the bottom corner is very small even when fullscreen
  • Although the action shots are great it would be great to see some slower or still shots

  • Started with a full screen piece of work that was slow and a good opening, was able to see all the details without being rushed.
  • Artist has tried to put loads of work into the showreel but it feels a bit rushed
  • Artist is a 3D generalist but for each work does not include what part of the scene he created or list contributions, are we to assume everything is his work? When the artist does list work it’s small and hard to read

Lamiaa Abdo

  • Again contact information first
  • Included wireframe on 3D models as well as untextured models. Models could have spun slower to see full details
  • Personally I would have put textured assets first and anything that looked more unfinished towards the end.
  • Lighting may be dark to appear atmospheric but it feels too dark and details are hard to see
  • Ends abruptly, would have liked to see a better fade or transition to the artists details. Gives the impression its been cut rather than coming to a natural end.

  • I like the diorama style showing of the assets but I would slow the speed. Wireframes are also good
  • Music is a bit too fast paced, makes me feel like we are rushing through the video to get to the next asset
  • I like the titles and short descriptions, it is informative but not text heavy
  • Clear on what the artists own work is

Work I could include in the new Showreel

  • 2nd Year Haunted Mansion (Assets)
  • 2nd Year 1920s (Video)
  • 2nd Year Weapons Rack (Screenshots and Assets)
  • Final Project (Video and Assets)

  • This is my finalised Showreel
  • Here I have included features of the showreels I have exaimed. I have tried to keep everything moving, so using fast shorter shots. I have also focused on my own work (The 1920s was more difficult as I done loads of features of each scene, mostly the bartender outfit, band outfits and the UV’ing and Texturing of assets)
  • I have included a title and contacts information
