While searching for opportunities on twitter to get involved in the 3D Artist community, I came across a post by New Images Festival. They were looking for creators to take part in projects based on a Latin American theme. If successfully choosen by a team, you were invited to take part in workshops and contribute help to a team who were pitching for funbding on development of an VR game. There was a variety of projects with different stories and I was chosen to take part in the Pueblo Santo : A Cumbria Trip team.

During this time I met Maria, the creative director of the project, and Laura, the production manaer, who explained to me they wanted to develop a VR game based off a Columbia tradegy. To do this they needed help putting together visuals to pitch for funding, and after chatting to these guys about my skill set and what I am able to provide, we agreed on a 3D visual of the town.

For the next few weeks we had various meetings dicussing the town layout, the tradegy Columbia has been through and the expectations for the pitch. Maria provided me with source materials and a town layout so I could begin her concept. As this was ongoing with my deadlines, I explained that I would unlikely be able to make a town from scratch and would use my own assets or ones from quixel to build the scene. The team were happy with this as they just needed the visual to assit the pitch.

What I produced for them was a short video in a night time scene which the producers were happy with. It showed the deserted town, the tree of souls, a church and bloodstains of the massacre, then later on the tree coming back to life as a symbol of hope.

This was a great experience and a good step towards non-university work in a 3D artist style rol. I gained confidence pitching and discussing ideas with strangers and working with a remote team in a quick turnaround, as from joining the team to the final pitch was 3-4 weeks. This involved working from a brief, researching the environment, multiple revisions and an Unreal setup. Maria also wrote me up on Linkedin about my participation which will be great promotion for future work.
