First Trail Recording

This was my showreel entry for another assessment, which included my Haunted Mansion room built so far. At the time it did not include any of the assets for the individual ideas, but was a practice run at moving the camera. There are shots in this which are too fast and ‘swing’ heavily, which can be quite disorienting.

Video recording

To record the zoomed in picture shots, first of all I would arrive at the area I wanted ‘photographed’. I then zoomed in, set a key, then zoomed out very quickly. When I imported the video into unreal, I paused the sections that needed camera flashes, and turned up the colour, saturation etc to make the picture almost completely white, like a camera flash.

Overall I am very pleased with the final video of my unreal room. I believe I was able to execute my crime scene ideal well and I am pleased with the concept. I believe the assets look well and the room is different to the rest of my group but still inkeeping with the overall theme of a Victorian Haunted House.

Things I would improve;

Upon review of the final video I would make the following improvement. I would show the entire room more, as there was a whole section behind me including medicine cabinets that were never shown in the video. This was difficult to do was my room was quite small, so it was difficult to move the camera in unreal. When I added footsteps to the recording, I had already recorded the video before importing it to Premiere Pro to add sound. When a step is taken, the camera remains in place, rather than buckling slightly with the step. It would look better for the video if there was a slight bounce on the video to match the footstep sound.
