Chart

This is the original asset list on our grantt chart for the bathroom. To create the list I went to my mood boards created on Victorian bathrooms and time period games and listed every asset that I could see.

After a discussion and some feedback from my team I ended up with this narrowed down list of things to create. The team weren’t so keen on aspects such as a baby changing table, whereas although it was commonplace in large Victorian houses, might not fit well into our theme. Other items were taken off my list including a mirror, rugs, and radiators, as the rest of the team were developing their own versions and therefore I could place them in my scene. It’s difficult for me to share assets with the team as they are all building similar rooms and can share assets such as chairs and tables, whereas my furniture will be quite specific to my room. This means I can maybe take some smaller assets off my team members but not have a lot to offer them.

Sink

I used a combination of these images to create my sink from scratch. I wanted exposed metal piping for the sink so I could texture it more corroded to give the scene an essence of being abandoned. I also wanted the sink to be its own countertop, so it was like a combination of the bowl for the sink and its own vanity surface. This means that I will have a flat surface to place smaller decorative items, such as soap, around the sink, and can use multiple textures such as having a metal bowl for the sink and ceramic for the countertop.

The main issue I ran into creating the sink was that I wanted the metal basin to sink into the countertop, but then the countertop would run through the sink. I then had to add edge loops through the countertop so I could delete certain faces which would then show the sink.

For underneath the sink I wanted to keep the shapes as simple as possible, using basic spheres and cylinders. This means when I apply to metal texture it should blend easily.

Bath

For my bath I wanted to recreate a clawfoot tub design, but found creating the claws of the feet really difficult in maya.  I wasn’t able to recreate them in a way that look smoothed and didn’t bring attention to the bath in a negative way, so I decided to make the bath sit on the floor entirely, so it would be a basin shape with taps and piping.

  • Followed this tutorial to being the bath shape
  • was helpful to create the initial shape of the bath
  • didnt follow the rest of the tutorial as it was for more modern style bath with side panelling

Toilet

This was the initial toilet design

On the final improved version of the toilet I extruded the bowl so it wasn’t flat at the top and more realistic. I also added hinges to the back of the toilet seat to join the models together.

Cabinets

Towel Rail

For creating the towers rail I wanted to create a larger standalone one. This was to take up more space in the bathroom and to allow me to cover it with more towels or possibly a large dust sheet. To create this I used the same design for the metal pipes used for the sink and bath, so they looked like a matching bathroom suite.
