Week 1 – Animation Studio – 100 Initial Worlds

Self Reflection

The 100 initial worlds where I was placed in group 3 with my group members Katy Allen, Racheal Dolan, Sophie Keers, Aimee Murphy and Victoria Sava-Reyes.

The main objective of this task was to start the design thinking of the different types of worlds you would want to ‘recreate’ and then empathise, define and ideate the narrative to which you will have animate in a 10-second sequence. These are some of the Initial 100 worlds ideas :

  • A World where everything is paper
  • A World where Rats rule
  • A World where bugs rule
  • A World with Floating Islands
  • A World where everything is in Black and White
  • A Futuristic World
  • A World where everything is made of Candy
  • A World Full of Magic
  • A World where everyone lives underground
  • A World where Dogs rule
  • A World where people only speak in riddles
  • A World where Animals (except Humans) rule the world
  • A World where no one has a skeleton
  • A World where everyone is made out of Wool
  • A Puppet World
  • A World Only for Women
  • A World Only for Men
  • A World where everything is eatable
  • A World where Water is Wine
  • A World where Humans have enormously big heads
  • A World where no one ages
  • A World in Space
  • A Ghost World
  • A World where Men Give Birth
  • A World where Men and Women switch roles
  • A World where you can easily die
  • A Mermaid World
  • Pirate World
  • Vampire World
  • Space Pirates World

Finally, for the last task of the day we had to pick 5 of the ideal worlds, to recreate out of the 100 initial worlds list which is the Skeleton World, a World where you can Contact Spirits, in a Game Simulation, full of Sweets and Rats.

Picking the overall worlds was jarring as it was so hard to choose what one was the best to represent but with the group support, we figured out the best solutions for this issue by communicating the possibilities of the worlds and what we can come up with. At first, I thought communicating with the others was going to be difficult due to me not knowing the person but the process of communication went smoothly as you tend to forget negative thoughts and tend to look at the bright side of things.

The only thing I would say that didn’t work out well was the ideas and the thought process of the narrative as the group didn’t have any idea of what to do with them but a resolution was made where everyone used each other’s thoughts and opinions and build something

out of it. If I started this module again I would ask for assistance rather than guessing as in the first trimester I had difficulty understanding and I didn’t ask for reassurance which made it difficult for me to comprehend what I had to do.

If there was a way to improve my animation practice I would recommend myself to do more research, keeping things accurate by listening according to what the lecturer is stating and always keeping a positive mindset.
