This week’s subject for Animated Narratives was the Animation Pipeline. Talking about the basics of 3D Previsualization, what to do for the next 2 weeks for the pre-production presentation for week 6 including some group activities.
An Animation Pipeline is “the process animators use when creating a 3D animation. It involves scriptwriting, concept art, character modelling, rigging, animation, lighting, compositing, visual effects, and rendering.” (Infocus Film School, 12/08/23)
A series of tasks required to complete a finished piece of work. The animation pipeline helps the planning process and it lets the creators know what, when and how a task should be done. Focusing on the rules and regulations of pre-production, production and post-production. How it should be effectively made to create an animation. After learning the tips and tricks around the Animation Pipeline, we focused on the pre-visualisation of animation which is about planning shots, cameras and key movements of characters. Use a storyboard as a guide to make a rough sketch of each movement that is made. The only difference however is that pre-visualization has more to do with the scene, camera and the movement of the character.
During the afternoon, we made some examples of pre-visualised sequences.
Here are the samples…
