My Refection
Post-Presentation & Final Presentation – Modelling, Animation & Concept Art
This week on the 11th of April 2024 we had to present a presentation about our modelling, concept art and animation progress. In the presentation, I showcased the designs that I modelled e.g. a beluga dolphin, coral, iceberg, fish and seaweed. I also presented an animation piece demonstrating how I want my seaweed to move underwater. My main aim was a curvy look but my team members said it would be better if the seaweed was a bit waiver.
Throughout the presentation, however, we were given critiques and the first critique based on concept art was to make the designs of our character’s consistent which was told before. So I decided to remove my model’s outline (Beluga Dolphin) and add a similar texture that our group adapted which was a watercolour painted look, using Substance Painter.

A Seal’s Journey Presentation
This Week 11, I finalised my model and I made the underwater scene for our upcoming short animation, Seal’s Journey. The beluga had some problems with its typology but with the lecturer’s advice I was able to solve this issue. However, for the concept design, I decided to add eyelashes as I wanted the beluga dolphin to be feminine.
For the underwater scene, I used modified planes to recreate water light. This took me a while as I had to do my research into underwater scenes. In the scene, I also added some rocks and seaweed to add an underwater feel. After the week we had to present our final presentation showcasing some animation sequences, modelling and a previs for recap.
Underwater Setup

For my post-production, I made my animation sequence which was around 17 seconds long. However, throughout the process, I did shots 22-31 but I still have to do shots 19-21. I only need to wait for Rae Houston to finish her piece of animation so I can use her staging setup and props to animate my last animation piece. The animation was a bit long when I first made it as it took around 20 seconds which is way too long as our animation only needs to be around 60 seconds. It can’t be longer as it will be too long for the lecturer to mark. For now, I will be looking at audio pieces for example, sound effects and copyrighted music to make the scene more engaging to the viewers.
For finding copyrighted sound effects I used a site called Artlist.io which is ‘an all-in-one platform for video creators, providing you with the highest quality digital assets made by leading artists worldwide.’ (artlist.io, 2024) It is a royalty-free music software for videos, sound effects, stock footage, plugins, video templates as well as video editing software.

The sounds I used for the sequence
In the end, we finally got all of our animation pieces into one whole sequence which took a very long time but our group was able to succeed.
