Week 2 – Animated Narratives – 3D Animation

My Reflection

This week we looked at how to apply 2D animation knowledge to 3D and how to set up rigs on Blender for animation purposes. We do this by learning more about having to use the graph editor and different sources of rigging to manipulate the object.

“Animation is a filmmaking technique by which still images are manipulated to create moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets (cels) to be photographed and exhibited on film.” (Wikipedia, ca.12/22)

However, time have changed and technology has developed tremendously as most animation managements are run by software rather than on paper.

Animation is all about the timing and spacing of the images combined. This is also known as frame by framing. The graph editor is in most animation software including Blender and it benefits the editor by identifying animation errors. Along with the graph editor, the dope sheet is also useful as it moves keys around the timeline of our film.

For our task, we made an animated ball using more advanced rigging devices.

Here is the sample…

Ball Bounce Rig

My thoughts of rigging weren’t as good as I had many difficulties trying to move the objects effectively without displacing the rigs but I was able to pull through and make a hopefully success short sequence.
