My Reflection
This week we are introduced to The World of Animation. The World of Animation is a module that focuses on the works of Animation, its development and its criteria. For this week’s class, however, we learned about the basics of a Hero’s Journey, learning multiple ways on how a hero starts their journey or how their story takes place.
“The Hero’s Journey, also known as the monomyth, is a story structure where a hero goes on a quest or adventure to achieve a goal, and has to overcome obstacles and fears, before ultimately returning home transformed.”
(Reedsy Blog, 20/07/18)
I found this quotation useful as it best describes the definition and its key aspects.
There are 12 steps to the Hero’s journey that being the Hero’s Ordinary World, Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Meeting the Mentor, Crossing the Threshold, Tests, Allies, Enemies, Approach to Inmost Cave, Ordeal, The Road Back, Resurrection, Return with the Elixir and Reward.
The Hero’s Journey gives us Animators a good understanding of basic storytelling.
For this week’s Task, we made a Bouncy Ball bounce using Blender’s Animating Platform.
Near the end of the semester, we played a pictorial dice game called Story Dice by Dave Briss and we used these dice to create a story. This helped develop storytelling skills.
