Week 10 is all about adding detail and baking normal maps.
Adding detail is very important as it gives the model expression, definition, character and personality. Without detail, you could delay your work from being a perfect piece therefore using the Blender sculpting tool can help you as a creator, to make a well-detailed art piece.
For this we used multiresolution to subdivide our meshes, making it easier to sculpt our character. After using image texture files, we exported our mesh into an FBX allowing us to use Substance Painter to add the required detail.
Then after baking the normal maps are applied to each other whilst using the Blender software.
This is important as ‘Baking can provide information about where ambient shadows can be, where the edges of the geometry are and much more’ Ref: https://helpx.adobe.com/substance-3d-bake/
These are samples of what I’ve done, using the lecturer’s elephant mesh as we applied our sculpture as well as the maps.
After this, I used this technique and applied this using my character design as a guide. the only problem I had when making this was that fact I wasn’t able to add any texture maps or not enough multiresolution as my device was having issues with its size.
These are the following results.
