Week 8 – 3D Digital Literacy – Blocking a Character

Self Reflection

It’s week 8 and the character designs continue to develop as we have to make 10 designs in total for our future character modelling project. The character modelling project is the next assignment that our class has to do: make a character of your choice that best describes Gennedy’s work and model it using Blender’s platform. For this, we first had to create our final designs in a T Pose and have the character presented in a frontal and side view profile.

For this week’s class, however, we sculpted models on Blender using Blender’s Sculpting tool, creating only the model’s head, neck, torso and arms as well as hands.

I found this task tricky as it was difficult to place meshes and it was hard to create a body that best works with the sculpting tool.

This is the result I got.

At the end of this task, I discovered a true liking for sculpting and creating models as I’m willing to uphold the knowledge that I have been given. As well as further improving my sculpting techniques by the use of constant practice.

I have also made 5 more different character designs, using Gennedy Tartakovsky’s art style as well as for inspiration. I thought the designs were okay but they could’ve been better by using more references and more inspiration from Gennedy’s art style/work.

I drew this final design for my future modelling project whilst using Betty Boop and Melinda from the Unicorn Warrior Externals for my inspiration.

These are the samples.
