Week 1 – 3D Digital Literacy – Table & Chairs (Refresh)

Self Reflection

My first task at Ulster was to create a bunch of chairs and a little table in the Blender Software. I was very new to this platform as I had little to no experience. At the time of the first session, there were many issues as I had trouble logging into my account and getting started. That is why I decided to remake my work due to not having the ability to access the document. First I had to build a chair using mesh cubes but for this session, I used other tools that I learned throughout my studies including Beveling and adding modifications such as Solidify. Solidifying an object/mesh is what ‘takes the surface of any mesh and adds depth, thickness to it.’ Ref: Solidify Modifier — Blender Manual

For making the table I also used a Subdivision surface, a modifier that is a  ‘curved surface represented by the specification of a coarser polygon mesh and produced by a recursive algorithmic method’ Ref: Subdivision surface – Wikipedia

For the cloth, however, I applied cloth physics to the plane and added an animation sequence which forms and shapes the layout of the cloth whilst applying collision physics to the table. Guiding the cloth’s shape with the use of its surface. I thought this was a decent mesh but I didn’t like how the light I added made the cloth unclear. Next time, I would want to make sure the light/camera placements are correct before rendering the image/sequence.
