I felt my animation of the shark cracking its knuckles worked well as I felt my use of arcs and timing helped to make the animation seem more fluid and natural. I am pleased with my first shot of the crab struggling to get out of the chair as I felt I had good use of exaggeration with the poses and I used the follow through principle to add some secondary action as the eye stalks and the tie both move in time with the crab rocking side to side. I did try to use smears to make the movement appear quicker but I am not too sure if I am pleased with how these turned out. I felt my use of staging was strong in the shot where the shark exhales as the shark moves out of frame and the protagonist moves to the center to lead into the next shot of his reaction. I also like the final shot of the crab anticipating the attack as the eyes squash when it blinks which i feel adds a bit of liveliness to the character, however I do feel I could have pushed the squash and stretch further as the volume of the eyes didn’t remain the same. I felt the birds eye shot of the crab surrounded by the sharks didn’t work well because the crabs eyes move too fast for the movement I had planned and the perspective seemed off. I also felt the secondary action of the light swaying doesn’t look right and I should have slowed in and out some of the movement to look more realistic. I learnt that animating together as a team is good for splitting work up but also difficult for getting to that stage as I found it hard to communicate and arrange meet ups within our group. I also found discussing art style and character design consistency to be a bit of a challenge. If I were to start this module again I would spend more time practicing digital drawing as I mainly do art with a pen and paper and found the transition to be a bit awkward. To improve my animation practice I need to take more reference from real life movement and gain more line confidence as I notice in my animation some lines aren’t entirely smooth. For future projects I would keep using the pose to pose technique as I felt drawing the key pose breakdowns first before adding frames in between to make the animation more fluid helped my workflow and made me more focused. Before my next 2D project I will focus on using references in my art and becoming more confident with my linework. Overall I am pleased with the outcome of my work, and although it was a bit of a challenge to communicate with the group at times it was a nice change of scene as I have never really created art as a group before.
