#IXD103- Week 2- Monograms and Letterforms

After our task of researching and creating moodboards of monograms and letterforms we liked and felt inspired by, we were asked to have a go at creating our own using our initials.

This task was very enjoyable to do as we were told to just get as many design ideas as possible down onto a page without thinking thinking too much about it. this allowed us to be more free with our movements and ideas and allowed us to create ideas which we wouldn’t have if we were being too careful about it.

I experimented with the weight, size and curvature of the lettering to see what I liked best. I found it quite challenging as my initials “SC” are both extremely curvy letters which made it a bit difficult to try and get them to bit together. Despite this, I created a few designs which I am really happy with and will go on to develop on Adobe Illustrator to see which I lkenthe best.

These are still very rough sketches of my monogram ideas however I feel it gives you a good idea where my ideas are heading. Overall, I liked the curvature designs better than the more angular ones as I feel I should embrace the free lining of my letters instead of trying to distort them too much. Although, by saying this I plan on experimenting more digitally to abstract them slightly and make them more intriguing to look at which I am excited to do.
