As the KeyNote market research database is no longer being updated, the Library has cancelled its subscription. For those needing access to UK market research, we have set up a new subscription to the IBISWorld database which contains industry information for over 400 sectors. The database is generally very straightforward to use and the reports are updated regularly (once or twice a year). Note that the Library also subscribes to other market research databases such as Mintel, Passport and MarketLine (in Business Source Complete) and these all contain information on UK sectors as well as international market research.
If you need help in using these databases or in sourcing industry information please contact your business subject librarian.
The Library has set up a new subscription to the Passport database (formerly called GMID). Earlier this year, the database was upgraded with significantly more content and is now an impressive research database for those needing access to international marketing and economic data. As well as data for over 210 countries, there are a vast range of full-text reports on industries, countries and companies. The industry reports cover primarily consumer markets. Please contact a member of the business team if you would like a demonstration.
The Library’s GMID database (to be renamed Passport) has recently been upgraded to include significantly more content with more regular updates. The database is an excellent research database for those needing access to international marketing and economic data, along with detailed analysis. There are, for example, a vast range of full-text market reports on industries, countries and companies. Please contact a member of the business team if you would like a demonstration.
The search interface of the Global Marketing Information Database (GMID) has recently been refreshed. Note though there are no changes to the core functionalities and ways of searching the database. In researching up-to-date market data on consumer goods and services for particular countries, it is recommended that you click on the ‘Advanced Text Search’ option from the homepage to get started.
A short video is also available to help get you started on using the database.
A new online service for marketing and advertising researchers has now been made available by the Library. Marketing Mentor provides access to thousands of searchable, integrated and up-to-date pages on all aspects of marketing and advertising. Note that, while on-campus access is automatic, a unique username/password is needed for off-campus use.
The Global Market Information Database (GMID) is a powerful reference tool for any business researcher. It is a one-stop source for international statistics, market reports, company reports and information sources for country, market and consumer profiling. The search interface has recently changed with improved usability. Although the interface looks different the content remains as before with the facility to search by country and product/service. On accessing GMID, there is a short introductory video from the ‘Help’ option to familiarise you with the new interface and the additional functionality.
The KeyNote database is used primarily to research market intelligence on UK sectors. The database has recently been expanded to include an extensive collection of company data covering more than 7 million UK companies, which is updated daily, as well as details on directors, secretaries and shareholders. With an integrated search facility built into the homepage, users can perform a dual search for company information and market research in one simple step. The financial data (balance sheets, cash flow statements, profit&loss accounts, key ratios etc.) is available over a 5 year period and can be extracted in either PDF or Excel format as well as graphical representation.
The WARC database for marketing and advertising research information has recently undergone a major revamp. A brand new search interface has been launched which provides for more powerful searching as well as additional content, such as advertising expenditure forecast data and up-to-date company profiles. This additional information complements the previous content of over 50,000 best practice papers, case studies and journal articles from over 50 international marketing and advertising sources.
You can access the WARC database from the Learning Resources tab of the University Portal. A demonstration of the new interface is available by clicking here.
The Library has arranged access to the Sport Marketing series of online lectures produced by Henry Stewart Ltd.
