IXD304 – Space Moodboard

Kyle asked us to create a moodboard for our Apollo project, by compiling images relating to our ideas and design influences. Because I’m steering in the direction of a retro-inspired design, to fit with the late 60’s-early70’s feeling, I want to incorporate that into my research.

I decided to create a Pinterest board to gather my ideas.

Kyle also requested for us to design a small logo or branding concept based around our current ideas.

For this task, I decided to bring up a retro-based design I created in my first year, which I felt was the same type of feeling and design I wanted to convey for this project. I also used the designs Kyle had shown us in class as an influence for my design.

My previous work:

The Figma board I used to design my logo:

I started out by testing out a variety of typefaces that I felt were appropriate to space. Next, I created a small illustration of the moon, which I ended up liking a lot more than I thought I would, seeing as how simple it was to create. Next, I simply created a starry background by copy and pasting a lot of small circles, then onto editing the actual text.

I wanted the text to feel aged and neon, so I added a blurred copy of the text layer beneath the top layer, creating that faded out look. I really like the way this design turned out, and it didn’t take me long to take.

Kyle seemed to really like it as well, which gave me a lot of encouragement as to where I was taking this project.
