IxD103 – Week 9 – Portfolio Sites

Week 9 – Portfolio Sites

Today we started to begin planning our portfolio website, it was great to discuss our plans as it gave us a good head start to work on it over our easter break. Developing our own portfolio website is a great way to demonstrate an understanding of personal brand identity. Our personal portfolio sites will be a great way to pull all of our work together and will show our consideration given to brand identity through voice and tone, considered content and visual cohesiveness.

Task 1 –

Our first task of the day was to do a S.W.O.T. analysis to gather our thoughts before beginning. I think this was quite a difficult exercise to complete as it forced me to recognise my own strengths and weaknesses. I find it very hard to review my own work as I am normally quite tough on myself. It was a good exercise to get my thoughts straight.

Following up on our S.W.O.T. Analysis, Daniel asked us to complete a mission statement before beginning our webpage.

Task 2 –

Our next group task took place on miro. Each member of the class had to write down what we thought the purpose of our portfolio website was for us personally. We came up with quite a few ideas. Most striking to me was creating an online presence for ourselves. This actually got me feeling really excited as having a portfolio website I can be proud of is a great thing and will look really good for future employers.

We then placed these sticky notes into a hierarchy, helping us to understand whats the most important things we achieve from the portfolio websites.

These exercises were really helpful and it was interesting to see each others views on what is most important for them. Each persons priorities were different from each others as it all depends on what we want to achieve.

Content Planning –

Next we started to discuss the content we want to include in our portfolio pages. Daniel gave us lots of designers to look at for inspiration. Although I am not very confident in the area of coding etc. I am quite excited to start the process of wireframing and seeing what I can come up with.

I have written down all of the things I need to include on my page and I’m really excited to get started.

Some notes from class…
