#IXD104 Week 10

“We are at the onset of a new movement in Art that is built around data” —Kenneth Cukier, Data Editor , Economist

As seen previously data is all around us, it’s in everyday life through the work of art whether that be in traffic warnings on google maps or weather predictions. Data visualisation is becoming more prominent in the modern world. Data can take many forms such as hidden forms through the work of artificial intelligence and creative expression.

‘Big data’ is a term referring to the use of large and diverse rapid sets of information that is collected and analysis usually by bigger companies. This can ultimately help companies to target their audience through advertising and other measures.

Looking at one of the data visualizers that Paul has recommended named Aaron Koblin his unique way of visualizing data through flight trails was one I found very interesting. He creates complicated flight patterns to form large artistic and beautiful data charts which creates a stunning visual to look at.

Another designer I found interesting was Janet Echelman. Looking at her work I was amazed at innovative methods she used to prescribe data in the real world through her art projects. It’s really interesting to see all these designers and the different ways they explore and utilise data.

This class was a good refreshment about data visualisation, as we come to the remaining days of this module it’s helpful to me as it gives me the chance to see different artists and their approaches to data. I have been greatly inspired with the many great examples that Paul has shown us.
